If a record misstates an outcome, an application to the issuing agency to correct it is the appropriate first step, supported by the certified documents mentioned above. Accuracy, rather than deletion, is the achievable objective , and with the right documents, a person’s record tells the correct story. Keep your own file as well: the arrest date, the station, whether a charge followed, and the documents you obtained. A well-organised personal record shortens every conversation with an employer, a bank, or an agency that questions the position.
